Middle School Portfolios

Last week in Middle School Art we learned about the value of having a portfolio: for transporting and protecting artwork. It can also be a collection of an artist's best work. I brought my leather portfolio to class and showed the students some of the art I had produced in the past then the students created and decorated their own cardboard portfolio for holding this year's artwork. Here are their fun portfolio creations (Click on the photos to see closer):

Art 1 Calligraphy Project

In Art 1 this past week we looked at the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design and also at Calligraphy and Lettering. Because "line" is one of the Elements of Art and because we looked at how we are each a masterpiece created by God (Ephesians 2:10), our Art 1 students did their first project with their name or initials as the focal point of their design.
I love how each of their unique name designs reflects their uniqueness and creativity!

Collaborate

Grace Preparatory Academy Art Classes got off to a great start. On our first two days we did a collaborative art project that involved all five art classes from the Middle School all the way up to the advanced High School Art Class (Art 2/3). Each art student made their own paper "quilt block" and we put them all together for one big Grace Prep Art Quilt. Didn't it turn out fantastic? (Click on the picture to see it close up/full screen)
