MS Art - Pastel Resist Christmas Art

By Hattie L.

Students in Middle School Art Class have been celebrating the Christmas season with some fun art projects. This one is pastel resist. They used oil pastels to draw a Christmas scene and then painted over the pastels with either watercolor or tempera paint. The oil in the pastels repelled or "resisted" the paint creating an interesting effect. They then used metallic acrylic paint to add highlights. Aren't they wonderful?

MS Art - Scherenschnitte

By Marissa D.

Middle School Art Students have been celebrating the Christmas season by creating some fun art projects. This one is art by cutting paper. They learned a little bit of history about paper cutting artwork including what it's called in different countries. In China it is called Jianzhi (pronounced "John-zee"). In Poland it is called Wycinanki (pronounced "vee-cee-non-key"). In Mexico it is called Papel-Picado, meaning "perforated paper". Finally, in Germany it is called Scherenschnitte (pronounced "share-en-shnit"), meaning "scissor snips." Many of the students decided to create snowflakes but some created other Christmas scenes.

HS Art 1 - One Object/Six Views

By Kyler M.

Our next project in Art 1 involved drawing six different views of one object. This is another "seeing" exercise which trains the artist's eye to pay more attention to shapes, lines, and values. Two of the views had to be contour drawings (outline without shading) and the other four had to include shading. Some students zoomed in and drew parts of their chosen object and others drew their whole object from different angles. Enjoy looking at our object study!
