2019-2020 Grace Prep Art Assistant

I am happy to announce that this year, the Grace Preparatory Academy Art Room will have a volunteer art assistant. Hannah, a junior in high school who has attended Grace Preparatory, is an art student at Alla Prima Art Studio in New Braunfels. She will be assisting in the Tuesday/Thursday Middle School Art Class at first and then later may help in some of the other classes as her time and schedule permit. I enjoyed getting to know her a little bit as she helped me prepare for the first few weeks of art classes.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CREATIVE THINGS?
I have been creative as long as I can remember.

WHAT ART MEDIA DO YOU ENJOY CREATING WITH?
I love oil, acrylic, and watercolor.

WHAT DO YOU STRUGGLE WITH AS AN ARTIST?
I struggle with accepting mistakes because I am a perfectionist.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE COLOR?
I love literally any pastel color.   :)

WHOSE ARTWORK DO YOU ENJOY?
My favorite artists are Audra Auclair, James Jean, and Wayne Thibaud.

WHAT DOES ART AND CREATIVITY MEAN TO YOU PERSONALLY?
Art to me is a calming outlet where I can express myself, relax, and have fun.

ANY WORDS OF ADVICE TO YOUNG ARTISTS?
My advice to young artists is to have fun, learn from your mistakes, do not worry about how others see your art, and practice a lot.   :)

Meet Mrs. Hopkins

Hello! I am Mrs. Hopkins, the art teacher at Grace Prep. I am looking forward to getting to know each of my students this year and also being a part of encouraging and helping to develop art skills and creativity. I graduated in 1990 from Texas Tech University with a BS degree and a minor in Art. My husband Mike and I have been married since 1994 and we have 4 Treasures ages 23-13, Megan, Nathan, Nolan and Stephen. Many members of my family, both immediate and extended, enjoy being creative whether it's in the visual or musical arts. We also have an almost 13 year old terrier mix named Faleen Navidog. Over the course of the school year I plan to post our students' artwork on this blog site so you can keep up with what we are doing. I also plan to rotate what we do in class each year so your student can continue taking art and not repeat projects. My theme verse for teaching art is Ephesians 2:10. I like how it reads in the Amplified Bible:

For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].

I won my school district's logo design contest in 12th grade. The father, Bob Overmyer, of a family who lived in the district was an astronaut and my logo was made into a patch and flown on his space shuttle mission!
Clear Creek ISD used my design for close to 20 years! :-D
