Each year in all of the Art Classes we dive into a fun collaborative project on the first day of school. The students create something individually and then we put them all together to make something big. This year we looked at a few examples of God's Covering in the Bible: animal skins for Adam and Eve after they sinned and hid themselves, the ark for Noah and his family and the animals, Jesus' blood shed for us that covers our sins, the Armor of God... The Psalms also contain many beautiful word pictures of God's Covering. We looked at Psalm 91 especially because it so comforting to us during these crazy times we are living in. Here is the first part of that passage; do you notice all the mentions of God's Covering?
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!" For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. Psalm 91:1-4 (NASB)
Our collaborative project this year was inspired by this passage. We don't know for sure what God's wings look like but it's fun to imagine! Each student used watercolors to paint a feather and, after cutting them out, they were assembled together to create two large wings. They can stand in front of the wings to take a picture if they want. Below are their feathers if you want to see them individually.
