HS Art I, II, & III - Celebration of Everyday Life

Art plays an incredibly important role in our history and in our current society. Through art we have learned about past cultures, traditions, and people. From ancient art and sculpture we can gather clues about how people lived back then. In 500 years, when our current society might be studied, what works of art do you think they will look at? What would it say about our culture? With this idea in mind, students in all of the High School Art classes created a work of art that celebrated ordinary moments and things in their lives that would give someone in the future an idea of what life was like in our time. The Art II and III students also included an artist statement with their piece. Enjoy seeing their masterpieces!

For my project, I decided to celebrate my favorite pastime, drawing! The reason I chose to do drawing was because it's something I really enjoy doing in my spare time and I wanted to express how I see it. I also added Garfield in there for sentimental reasons. I just love Garfield!

My favorite every day activity is probably drawing on my tablet. I love learning new things about digital art and improving my style and techniques so I decided to do this art piece based on that and I used a digital medium to show that it is my favorite medium to work with.

With this project I decided to change my style. I made it look more sketchy, unfinished and messy so that it looks like something you would find in someone's journal or sketchbook. I also chose to draw udon soup because that is something I enjoy eating frequently.

I chose to draw a picture of the video game set-up I have because it is an extremely ordinary moment in my life. I love to play games often because they give me interesting challenges to accomplish as well as unique things to do and explore. I chose to use pencil for this project because I know some of the pieces would be quite intricate and some things could be accomplished through paint or other mediums.

HS Art II & III - 3-D Project

Students in High School Art II & III got to choose their own project for this one. The goal was to create something with texture or 3:D. The projects they could choose from were Assemblage Collage, Paper Curling, or creating something with Acrylic Skins. Have fun checking out what they made!

I have made a mosaic ocean in this piece. Layers of different cool colors until the board is filled.

Mixed Media with Paper Curling by Emmett M.

I chose the paper curls because they seemed like the best option and I chose the bow tie design because it is very formal and the eye in the middle really pops.

Jewelry made with Acrylic Skins by Madelyn K.

I picked the skins project because I liked the idea of making jewelry. I made the earrings with paper in supporting the skin. I like the effect of the acrylic and really enjoyed the composition.

I made these Acrylic Skins in a way to expand my [art] media knowledge. I love the idea of trying new art medias.

Acrylic Skin Flowers by Miranda L.

For this project I decided to turn the paint peels into flowers. I wanted the colors to be like a different shade of blue, so that they would all match. I painted on the [parchment] paper in circles so that petals could be formed.

Paper Curling by Teagan M.

For my project I chose to do 3D paper curls. I took strips of black paper and curled them into spirals before gluing them to the canvas which I previously painted. Overall I had fun with this project and I'm happy with how it came out.

I chose to do paper curling for my 3-D project. First I painted a fire on a blue background. then I used paper curling to make smoke.

Textured Artwork made with Acrylic Skins by John M.

When I was tasked with creating a 3D project, I wanted to do paint skins because I can still utilize 2D techniques while keeping it 3D. When I was deciding on what to create for the project, I looked back to Ren and Stimpy and its use of shapes in character design and backgrounds. So I thought to do yet another Ren and Stimpy project, because I thought the technique would work with those characters, and I just really love the show. However, to do it I had to be very technical to cut out specific shapes and glue them in the right spots. It was a long and hard process, but I believe I really pulled it off!

This project was particularly difficult for me to do since this is not the type of art I normally do. I wanted to design an interesting weapon, kind of like a stained glass medieval piece with more saturated colors. It ended up looking more like a collage, but I'm happy with the design.

With this project I debated whether or not to use symmetry as the focal point but I decided against it. I thought that the unsymmetrical pattern would look more appealing than a symmetrical one.

Acrylic Skin Art by Jaxon B.

For this project I chose to try to create an imaginary alien sky. The reason I chose to draw this is because while searching for things to paint on the Martian surface project [see Artwork Rework Project post], I stumbled across some neat concept art for different alien planets. I chose to attempt to create a swamp-like planet for this project just so I wouldn't have 2 rocky planet looking things. Creating this project was very difficult for me. The paint took about 3-4 hours to completely dry and I could only create one batch of "skins" at a time. The pieces were also quite fragile and some broke. If I ever were to get the [Artwork Rework] assignment again I will be sure to include this project with it.

Middle School Art - 4th Quarter Sketchbook Entries
