Students in Art II and III recently completed their personal postage stamp art project inspired by Grandma Moses. Grandma Moses was an American folk artist who began painting scenes from her rural community when she was in her 70's. Goes to show that you're never too old to start something new! One of her paintings was made into a US postage stamp. After each student created their postage stamp, they wrote a short artist statement on the back. Enjoy seeing their stamp ideas and reading their statements!

On my stamp project, I decided to draw a hummingbird. I used watercolor and colored pencils to complete my work. Watercolor is my favorite media and hummingbirds are my favorite bird.

I had none of the colors I needed in my color pencil box to make this so I decided on using paint. The paint was a good replacement but it turned to liquid and mixed the wrong colors.

For my stamp project I drew a compass rose. Using colored pencils, I outlined, colored, and shaded. I chose the compass rose because I saw it in the room and couldn't think of anything to draw.

For my stamp I decided to do a mixed media drawing using oil pastels, watercolor, and acrylic paints. I painted an Allium, which is one of my favorite flowers. For the edges I used scissors with a pretty cut edge and trimmed along the edges.

I love to hunt deer, so when I saw this deer in my backyard it was pretty cool. I decided to put my best take on him onto the page and this is what I came up with.

I went with this theme because I'm fascinated with the sun and the moon. I think they're gorgeous together. Personally, I think they make a great art theme.

I based my stamp off of my Venture Crew. Our crew paddles often so I added the river and a paddle. The symbol is the venturing symbol and it costs $1.33 because I am in Crew 133.
