MS Art - Journey of Peace Posters

By Joy B.

Middle School Art Students started off the year with a BIG project, creating a poster for peace to enter in the Lion's Club International Peace Poster Contest. It was a daunting project as they were not used to creating artwork on such a large (18" x 24") piece of paper. I was so proud of them, though, for persevering. I love their ideas for celebrating peace!

HS Advanced Art - Chihuly Inspired Faux Glass Bowls

By Tori P.
In High School Advanced Art class we had fun learning about Dale Chihuly, an extraordinary modern glass artist. Since we can't engage in real glass blowing at school we created faux glass bowls inspired by the organic and colorful glass bowls by Chihuly. Students painted heavy weight craft plastic with enamel paints and then used embossing hot air "guns" to soften and reshape our flat plastic sheet into an organic bowl shape. It was a lot of fun! Here is the link to see more about Chihuly's amazing glass art (some of his artwork is also on display in San Antonio!):

HS Art 1 - Calligraphy Project

By Emma d.

High school Art 1 students learned about the Art Element "Line" and how even our handwriting and signatures can be an art form. We also looked at lettering and some terminology associated with that. Finally, students created a work of art using calligraphy and watercolors. They were allowed to invent their own lettering or look up lettering ideas on line. Didn't they turn out so nice?!
