We have been looking at the Armor of God in Middle School Art and this project was based on the Shield of Faith. Students learned how the shield is probably the piece of armor that takes the most beating in a battle. So it might also be with our faith when we're in a hard or uncertain season. However, we learned that our faith shields get bigger and protect our minds and souls when we remember who God is and His faithfulness to us. It's what we keep our eyes on. We don't want to get hit with the fiery arrows of doubt so we keep moving forward holding the faithfulness of God in front of our eyes! Likewise, the front of the shield is a declaration to the enemy of who we are and to whom we belong! Students learned a little bit about heraldry and designed their own personal crests and shields. On the back of the paper they wrote down what the symbols of their crests meant to them as well as ways that they remembered God's faithfulness in their lives or in the lives of their family. This art teacher got a bit teary-eyed hearing them each share their crest designs with the class and declare God's faithfulness in their lives! (Click on each photo to see more clearly.)
