High School Art II/III - Drawing with Linear Perspective

Students in High School Art II and III had a review on drawing with linear perspective and then had the assignment of creating their own work of art using linear perspective. They could do a landscape, cityscape, or the view inside a room.

I was inspired to draw Downton Abbey because I love Downton Abbey. All I could think of when I thought of a perspective drawing was this establishing shot of the Abbey during scene changes. I wanted to do something big for my final project.

I had a lot of fun trying a new art media for this project. I also enjoyed working with color.

Pencil Drawing "Places I haven't Been" by Grace O.

I drew this because I like drawing buildings and I liked keeping it black and white because it was simple and cool.

For this project I wanted to do a landscape with a road coming in from the distance. I thought it would be cool if I did a more sketchy outline with a Sharpie, too. The colors I picked are more vibrant to give the picture some brightness.

This is definitely one of the best work of art I have done. I have never done anything similar to this one point perspective and I am really proud of myself. This artwork is definitely a keeper.

This art represents how quickly life changes by showing the past alongside its future.

By Michelle B.

My one-point perspective is very colorful and fun. My artwork is a little town with a park next to it. I used pencil, watercolors, and colored pencils to color and draw. This piece helped me learn more about how to use watercolors. The finished results aren't what I imagined but it still looks good and I still love it!

There's no rhyme or reason for the way I did it but I like the way it comes out. The land in the piece is nice and seems quiet and nice.

I chose to draw a sheet with linear perspective, I used colors to make it look like the nighttime.

By Stephen H.

For my linear perspective project I drew a house, tree, and a road. Behind them is a field. Colors used are yellow, blue, brown, tan, grey, and white.

Middle School Art - Pen & Ink Drawings

Middle School Art Students recently finished their "trip around the world" looking at art and creativity in different cultures. For their final project students got to draw a picture where they are looking through something at a scene. Some of the "views" they drew are looking through keyholes, open windows, cell phone screens, glasses, etc. Before they began their drawings, we learned about shading techniques when using ink pens. They are stippling (using dots); hatching, cross-hatching, and contour-hatching (using lines); and scumbling (using scribbles). Enjoy their drawings with a view!

Monday/Wednesday High School Art II/III - Artwork Rework

The National Visual Arts Standards are a set of goals created by visual arts educators working with colleagues across the field of arts education. They provide guidelines and expectations for what students should know and be able to do throughout Kindergarten to 12th grade in their state. Two of the standards are to "Individually or collaboratively formulate new creative problems based on student's existing artwork" and to "Reflect on, re-engage, revise, and refine works of art..." Keeping these in mind, students in High School Art II & III either did a new version of one of their past works of art or added to, changed, or created something new from an existing past work of art. Enjoy their before and after photos (the top photo for each student is their "before")!

For my project, I decided to redraw the first page of my sketchbook. I am happy with the anatomy and how much my style has improved.

Here is my purple art with my stick figure human. The grass isn't necessarily grass color and the ark isn't an ark color but it is interesting looking. I added color and a background to my ark.

The feather project was from the beginning of the year but I wasn't satisfied with it. I liked the colors and the idea of it so I turned it into a bird.

I saw the original painting I did and I thought it looked like space so I drew two space ships. The one on the left is from Guardians of the Galaxy and one on the right is Thanos' ship.

My artwork is of a duck named Lenny, who rolled out of a pond to smell some flowers. I used watercolors for the grass, water, and the sky. The duck and the flowers were colored with markers.

High School Art 1 - CelluClay Creations

High School Art 1 students just completed a study of the Art Element Form, which in the Art world refers to three dimensional creations. They learned about how some sculptural forms are created with an armature, or kind of skeleton framework underneath. They then created their own sculptural form using aluminum or cardboard armatures and then covered that with CelluClay, a type of Paper Mache. When those were dry they painted them with acrylics and added details. Enjoy seeing their masterpieces below!
