High School Art II/III - Self Portraits

Drawing oneself is often an intimidating task, especially for young artists. In Art II and III, students recently completed a study on drawing facial features and creating their self portrait. They had the choice of tracing a photograph of themselves, drawing their portrait freehand while looking at a selfie picture, or creating their portrait as a cartoon version. They were allowed to chose any art media to create their masterpiece and some even used more than one media. You will enjoy seeing their completed projects below!

I came up with this idea of thinking of time travel and old stamps. So I put both together and got a 1930's stamp. The suit was based on what I was wearing when I first started to make [this project].

For my self-portrait I used a picture that I liked from the Comal County Fair last fall. I decided to keep it black and white because I like the look of the style.

This piece of artwork is a self-portrait. I was thinking that drawing myself was going to be hard but it was rather enjoyable watching each line I added make the piece look more complete. I think the colors and the background are very simple, balanced, and go very nicely together.

I used watercolors and a Sharpie to create my piece of artwork. I also used salt to make the watercolors spread out in a cool way. I especially love the blue and purple where the salt affected it.

I drew this portrait of me and kept me black and white because it looked cool. I drew the checkers because I like checkers.

For my self-portrait I decided to draw myself in my own style. I used watercolor pencils and colored the background with leaves because I love nature.

I wanted to do a more cartoon-y style of art for this project. I used a lot of yellow because it's my favorite color. I really tried to portray my personality through this work of art which is why I included a paintbrush in the bottom corner. Art is something I love, so I included something to represent that.

For the self-portrait project I drew myself free-hand. I used only pencil shading. I like how well the drawing turned out considering I only drew it free-hand.

I chose to go with the most recent picture of me and the fishing lures in the background because it represents who I am and what I love.

This was our self-portrait project. I kinda struggled with this one. I don't enjoy drawing my face and when I was tracing my face I gave up. I just free-handed it. It didn't really turn out the way that I wanted but I think it's alright.

My self-portrait reflects the sleepy tired feeling I have at the end of the school year. I chose blue and green and black because they reflect my overall demeanor right now. I tried a lot of different backgrounds, but I chose swirls and lines because of the lazy end-of-year atmosphere.

I chose to leave my personal portrait in pencil to give a sketch look. I decorated the background with a collage of things I like.
