We are learning about the different Elements of Art in Art 1 this year and the most recent one we've focused on is Shape. Students learned that when you zoom in on just a part of a work of art you can see that it is made up of lines, values, and shapes. To help focus on the shapes within an artwork, students divided into groups of three or four. Each group selected a black and white photo which was cut into small squares. Then each student took three of the squares to reproduce on larger pieces of paper. When they were finished with their individual squares the groups reassembled their drawings from their chosen photo onto a large piece of butcher paper. The finished projects are fun to look at as you can see that each student has a different drawing style. The lines, and values, and shapes don't always line up but you can still tell what the larger picture is supposed to be and they have a kind of abstract art feel to them. Below are each group's project. Enjoy!
